Mulcair backs the federalist side in Quebec

The not-so-Disaffected Lib is trying to smear Thomas Mulcair by claiming he's a traitor for not backing the Liberal party in the recently-announced Quebec election. That sounds like something the Conservatives would say, like when they called Jack Layton “Taliban Jack” for opposing Canada's involvement in the war in Afghanistan.

Mulcair is a staunch federalist. He opposes Quebec separation and another referendum, which he said Quebecers don't want. It's his job as leader of the Official Opposition to promote federalism and oppose a referendum, which he is clearly doing. It's certainly not his duty to support the Liberal party, which he is not a member of.

Let's leave this kind of mudslinging to the Cons.

  1. The not so Disaffected Lib doesn't know what he's talking about. One moment he's smearing Justin Trudeau and his baby, the next moment he's smearing Mulcair. A few weeks ago he said we shouldn't obsess about Harper, but doesn't follow his own advice.
The old fuddle duddle is confused and objectively working for Harper.

  2. "Traitor" is a very powerful word and I certainly didn't refer to Mulcair as such. I went by what Mulcair said, his decision to remain 'neutral' in this campaign. Neutral is not pro-federalist nor would it be necessary for Mulcair to support his old party, the Quebec Liberals, for him to support federalism in this election. The erstwhile opposition leader did, however, suggest he would be involved in such a campaign if NDP candidates were on the slate. Ron, you can put as much lipstick on that pig as you want and spin it from now till Sunday but Mulcair's words speak for themselves.

    1. Saying Mulcair chooses his party over his country is effectively calling him a traitor. Trying to rationalize this outrageous attack is putting lipstick on a pig.

When it comes to the 2015 federal election debate, which is what this is really about, there are enough issues to discuss without having to resort to sleaze and slander.

  3. Don't be obstuse, you know full well Mulcair was refering to neutral on the party issue, not soveriegnty, because his reason is he's waiting for a Quebec NDP, and in fact he has said he will speak up on any issue that invovles his role as Official Opposition leader.

He has made it clear he's a federalist on many occasions. You can't except him to support a party he broke up with because he felt it was corrupt.

The Liberal will do anything to try and make Mulcair look like a seperatist, even lie and distort the facts.

    1. Trudeau supporters should do as Trudeau is doing: stay positive and stick to debating the issues. Be critical of policy positions. Center-left activists have to be better than the Con artists.

  4. Mulcair is the only federalist leader who actually fought for the no side during the 1995 referendum, as he was an elected Quebec Liberal member of parliament. Too bad Liberals can't stay classy and have to act so nasty.

  5. actually I read the liberal partisan nastiness and have to laugh. What happen to all that hopey changey stuff? Staying classy and not talking like they are entitled sure didn't last long. Cats are cats.

    1. Jan, you critique Libs for being critical? Seriously, I don't like them either but your outfit isn't any better. It's just your home team. Your types don't pass a single opportunity to slag your second-greatest threat, Trudeau. (your greatest threat is yourselves - check you polls). Jan, if you support bitumen trafficking, you're not progressive. You're just another useless homie.
